Robin Hood's Bay
The tiny village of Robin Hood's Bay has everything an old port should have - steep cobbled streets, sandy beaches, rock pools, cliffs, moors. Throughout the year our festival season brings visitors and entertainment - for up-to-date news of events, do buy a copy of the local newspaper, Bayfair, or you can read it online. Events, useful information, local news, everything the visitor needs. Strongly recommended.
The Robin Hood's Bay Tourism Association lists many of the local attractions. You can walk the cliffs and moors, paint your own pottery, try pony-trekking, hire bikes, visit historical local spots, watch a Victorian Magic Lantern Show or simply potter round the beautiful village. Come for the Victorian Weekend, the first weekend in December - you might be lucky enough to be greeted by the Gracious Queen herself, visiting the village with her escorts.
Pubs, cafés and restaurants can be found in the village and in nearby Whitby, a quaint port associated with Captain Cook and Dracula, overlooked by a magnificent ruined abbey. Events at Whitby include festivals of every sort throughout the summer.
